Re-Spun Patreon Games

I have had a quick PM chat with Wolfschadowe before posting this to make sure he is OK with what I am about to say.

There are some games on Patreon (several with public free versions for those on a tight budget) that some of you will probably like, although before they were reworked to meet Patreon's new rules, we would not be discussing them here.

Now they have been reworked to remove the taboo themes, Wolf is OK with these games being discussed in this Off-Topic forum, provided that the sex is consensual and the participants are at least UK Legal age (16+), but ideally US legal age (18+).

Dark stuff like rape and abuse are still not welcome, however.

Three games that I think pass Wolf's test are Faerin's 'Man of the House', Summertime Saga by Dark Cookie and SL by Perverteer. There are some others i could mention, but they sail a bit close to the wind and deliberately so in my view.

I've played all three. I've also played a number of games that seem to, how shall we say, circumvent the "no incest" rule by allowing the user to choose the relationship. Quite frankly, most of them are not worth the time. Unfortunately, everyone now thinks they are a game developer thanks to engines like Unity and there are a lot of bad games being released.

MotH and SL are pure incest games. (SL actually stands for Sisterly Lust.) If they have been "reworked," then I imagine they are now in the infamous "Landlady and Roommates" genre. They are pretty fun to play but let's be honest about what they are.

If they are honest about what they are they violate the terms of Patreon.

As an aside one more game I would add to the list is "Lust Epidemic" by NLT. One of the best games of its type.

I specifically asked Wolf about this type of game, as I did not want to rock the boat, and he is cool with that.

Faerin has been quite thorough in his mods, but there is a mapping file that lets you redefine the relationships if you want to, but mods to that file are not supported by the dev team. The game has moved on quite a bit and there are a significant number of love interest characters that would never have been related to the PC. In my view MoTH has a pretty good story line and didn't need the extra frisson of the girls whose panties the PC was trying to get into being his sister, mother or aunt.

Summertime Saga is the same (except no mapping file that I know of). It was the highest grossing Patreon game for a while and so it was in their interest to make the rework fit the new rules. The main relationships have been changed from mother and son to landlady and tenant. The PCs landlady's 'friend' clearly used to be her sister and his aunt because they look so similar.

SL still has a couple of dialogue elements from the original game in the rework that make it clear that it started out as an incest game.

Interestingly, Astaros 3D's Girl House follows the landlady and female tenants model, but was created after the Patreon rule change.

Comes with the territory of being autistic: I tend to repeat myself and say obvious or weird stuff sometimes .

Anyway, so much for trying to kick off a discussion: a few comments from the usual suspects and it goes dead again. I thought pushing the envelope a tiny bit might bring a few lurkers out of the woodwork, but no dice.

Biggest problem I have with some of the "Patreon"izing of some of these games is the whole "Stop. We shouldn't be doing this because you're my roommate." Really. If you're going to pull the incest, rework the dialogues so they make sense vs doing a find and replace.

I agree. The dialogue loses quite a bit of credibility when it's saying one thing and means something else entirely. It's like PornHub having every other video being named "Step-something" ... Yea, bullshit. If you're going to make a game about incest then make a game about incest. It's a game. It's fantasy. Why Patreon feels the need to censor fantasy is beyond me because no one goes to jail for fantasizing about doing their sister or their mother. You have to act on the impulse to be guilty of a crime. Hell, in some countries it's not even a crime.

My understanding is that the primary driver of this censorship was not originally Patreon but rather PayPal. Faced with having a primary method of payment closed off, Patreon went along to maintain their revenue. That is not to say they wouldn't have had the same objections but PayPal forced the issue first.

Considering who owns PayPal that would not be the least bit surprising. People like Elon Musk and Peter Thiel don't mind SEC violations but sex talk is over the imaginary line.

I read that it was driven by the religious right (now that's an oxymoron if ever there was one) threatening to boycott the payment platforms and Patreon itself if they didn't boot out the sinners. I could say more, but I'll stop there, because this is not a political forum.
